So we settled on a new house and have been very busy painting, shopping, etc, to get ready for moving in. Other than making a few lens (I’ve become obsessed with Squidoo for no good reason) I haven’t done much of anything on my sites. That will have to change soon.
But I did want to leave a quick update on the ranking of the two sites that I did some backlinking of by creating 3 directly-linking properties and then doing mass article submissions to those properties (mass in Carrie-terms, not “Average Genius” mass submission armageddon).
On June 8th when I started my site rankings were:
Site 1: #15/#194 (home/inner – note the home started at #12 and dropped just prior to starting)
Site 2: #133/#284 (the homepage here started at #314 but moved up on it’s own just prior to starting)
Today the rankings are (6-7 weeks later):
Site 1: #5/#49
Site 2: #16/#100
Not bad! And what was great with this process is that I did not see a lot of dancing in the rankings like I see when I do a lot of direct links to my site.
Here is an abbreviated run-down of sites, software, and services I used:
- Order UAW-style articles from GetArticlesDone.com (3 rewrites final)
- Post those articles direct-linking (to my sites) on EZA, InfoBarrel, and Squidoo.
- Submit spun articles (previously submitted to EZA) with backlinks to 3 properties above using Automatic Article Submitter, ArticleBot, Free Traffic System and ArticleRanks (see also my ArticleRanks review).
- Bookmarked some of the secondary article submissions using IMAutomator and SocialAdr.
- Submit links for the Site 2 lens with Link Aloha.
I mention the lens-linking with Link Aloha because that lens has actually seen some good traffic and made an Amazon sale. I am assuming that is also passing some link juice to Site 2.
I’ve only been using Link Aloha for a month so I can’t give much of a review, but it is super easy and that is what I like. Some people think it is over-priced (same with SocialAdr), and that may be true on a cost/link basis, but if all I have to do is plug in a url and be done, I’m happy.
Overall I am pretty happy with these results. A second run of the above backlinking method would hopefully increase rankings further. The only downside so far is that Site 1 is not performing well monetarily so I will likely ignore that site for awhile.

Nice rankings! And pshaw – “mass submission Armageddon”? lol
That’s a major jump, Carrie – I’m still testing out ArticleRanks for my own properties (they did really well so far for my client’s 4 sites), but when that’s done I’ll be building the same type of link wheels.
It’s much easier to build ‘em small, then keep adding.
AND SO FUNNY what you said about Squidoo – I did the same thing w/Squidoo and HubPages.
Had to read a post and comments by Yolanda at Paid in Passive to snap out of that.
“Oh, yeah…I’m here to make money. Let’s try that.”
Pretty cool about Link Aloha, too – how many links did they create?
There’s a new forum profile link tool in Magic Submitter I haven’t even touched…I think it only has 150 or so loaded in there, but you can easily find targets like SMF forums or PhPBB, etc., collect a bunch and then command it once….all this makes no sense unless you use it, but suffice it to say it’s pretty easy to find one “Master Command” list, program it once, and then it copies those commands to all the other “child” programs (hope that makes some sense).
My point is –
I might just have to start doing FP links.
I wanted to ask you about InfoBarrels vs. HubPages – have you found one or the other to be better for your endeavors, and if so, what was wrong with HubPages?
Assuming you’ve tried them both. I guess a better question is: have you made money on InfoBarrels? Have you tried w/HubPages?
Congrats on the house.
AND:
What is AMA spintax?
1. AMA spintax = Article Marketing Automation. It’s the same as ArticleRanks uses. If you are using MAR (not sure you are, I know you prefer TBS) then you can use the export function in MAR and just choose AMA. This will format your spins for AR.
2. Link Aloha – 250 links for $23 (per month). I throw them only at Web 2.0s in case they are volatile.
3. IB vs HP – I only started with HP a few months ago so I have a longer history with IB. But so far I have seen almost no traffic to my hubs. I don’t see alot of earnings with IB but HP isn’t working for me yet. And I find setting up an article on Infobarrel easier. But I’ll be using both going forward for BLs.
Sorry for short responses, time to get the kiddos to bed!
Great. Now I REALLY miss MAR…I like the features in TBS, but my eyes hurt after hours of spinning – the chunky font of MAR was good times, easy on the eyes.
Anyway…that bites. Can’t do that with TBS unless I’ve just not programmed that…will try to.
IB vs. HP – with HP you need to get your hubs up above a score of 75 (75 or above) – and you do that by getting traffic, being active in the HP community, linking to other hubs…
I haven’t tried just driving traffic to the Hubs, but that’s a backlink that becomes a distraction due to their ingenious way of enticing you not to spam but to participate.
I’ll have to try IB – but so far my hubs are usually above 75 (it fluctuates) – but I dunno.
A nofollow link is still going to get traffic, I s’pose.
Should have stuck with MAR instead of drinking the TBS kool-aid. Did you see Llamaspin by Incansoft. I picked it up for kicks but haven’t tried it yet. I think it is suppose to mimic TBS’s user database thingy.
With HP I meant traffic to my hubs, not to my site. It’s a backlink (and I think the follow status is based on author score and hub score – mine are dofollow at the moment even though they are below 75), but one of the reasons I like using HP or IB is because you have a chance to earn from them directly AND get the BL. So far, I’m not even seeing any potential earnings with my hubs, but maybe that will change.
I did drink that Kool Aid. Ah!
After this convo – I checked and I did fix it, I was just trying to take an article that was already spun and then wanted to have TBS “fix it” for AR…
BUT if you program the spintax in, then you can do it fine. I was relieved at that!
That is some great movement there Carrie.
I think earning money with Infobarrel and Hubs are a waste. I started off that route last summer. I think people tend to think that because hubpages main site has such a hgh PR that that link juice will flow to their hubs and they will instantly rank for their keywords. That is not the case. You have to nurture and promote those hubs just as you would with any site. All that hard work only to have to share the revenue?! You are better off buying your own domains and doing the same work to promote your site and get 100% of the earnings.
Hey Carrie, I just noticed your theme creator. Did you know your theme was made by the guy that is the mastermind and creator of The Thesis Theme?
Hey Sara, yeah I know this theme is from the Thesis creator. I like his stuff which is why I keep thinking about buying Thesis!
I agree with you that Hubs and InfoBarrels are a waste as a sole/main source of earnings. But I like using them mainly for backlinks with the hope I can pick up a few dollars from the articles themselves.
Do you just submit your UAW articles from Getyourarticles.com straight into UAW or do you spin them even more.
I am considering doing this with MAR.
How is FTS going for you. Do you use the free service or the paid service?
Blue Ape Man
BAM,
I don’t use UAW. I use the 3 article versions to post to Web 2.0 sites and then us a different article to spin and use for backlinks using article submitters and ArticleRanks.
I have only used the free version of FTS but haven’t really followed up on the results to be honest.
