I swear, the more backlinks I create the more my rankings drop. It’s so frustrating.

Recently, I have done some of my own backlinks, tried out out some blog commenting offers on the WF and even added an article or two and I am ready to see something positive benefit. Nothing yet, just rank slippage. Here is the point that I want to worry that things won’t come back but I am tired of overanalyzing.

That’s one thing that really stinks about backlinking – the “crap, what did I just do”. I don’t know if Google is cranky or what, but the ranking recovery time after some backlinking seems longer and more chaotic. And that is even with a site over a year old.

But what can you do but just keep plugging along?

I am hopefully close to having a writer to do some articles for me every week. Writing is the thing I have the hardest time motivating to do so having someone to write for me should help alot. I did decide to pay more than I wanted to get a decent US writer so I won’t be getting too many articles per week, but I will still make more progress than on my own.

Now what I need to do is get better at keyword research. I spent a few hours yesterday on Market Samurai trying to find some good keywords and wasn’t having much luck. The KWs were for a domain I already have in which the empty WP template is already ranking at #12 so I’m not too concerned. I just need some related keywords to fill out the site. But still, it reminded me that I need to get better in this area.

Other than that I have alot of things to get done and alot of ideas swirling around in my head, but I have a few more weeks left of work to keep me busy. Once I have more time I need to sit down a come up with a more organized plan of how I want to do things.

I should mention that I am not into the microniche revolution that seems to be all around. Not that I am opposed to that method, it’s just not the direction I want to go. I do however, like learning about all of the methods that are working for people and try to incorporate those ideas into my own plans. Although I have to say at the moment I have no clear-cut plan other than building niche sites. At the end of the day most plans seem to boil down to good keywords and good backlinks with a little luck mixed in.

Well, I’m off to stare at another WSO that I don’t need to buy but probably will. Sometimes I read a WSO and just can’t stand the suspense of not knowing what the big secret is. Lately though I end up with a method which is interesting but not necessarily something I can use at the moment. So I should just stay out of the WSO section, but I can’t seem to help myself!

One Response to Sites Shuffling Downward

  1. If you’re not doing the niche thing, I suppose you’re going after a hi-compete arena? In which case, I *would* highly recommend Lisa Parmley of InLineSeo dot com, if you check out her system, it’s all about a satellite system of 2.0 sites that you can set up etc. pointing to your main site.

I also went to a site called the “30 day challenge” where they also discuss a few great traffic-creating ideas, similar to lisa’s system, but it’s working for my brother in law, who just took the first 4 positions in Google using similar tactics, for his search terms.

He also paid a very small fee to a company called “developer-hut” dot com, they have some really affordable backlinking packages that I’m buying for a few key affiliate sites. After seeing him dominate G with 4 positions (1-4), using the above methods, I can’t argue with him!

Just though I’d share that with you, since you’re full-time, and have a lot more riding on this than I do. I’m still using Elance as play-money, Dave Ramsey style…baby step 2 if you’re wondering…
