Article Backlinks – Ranking Update

June 21st, 2010 · Backlinks

So it has been 4 days since I started submissions for Site 2 and 3 days since Site 1 submissions. By submissions I mean I sent out two spun articles (using 2 article submitters and ArticleRanks) which each  contained links back to 3 corresponding articles (EZA, InfoBarrel, Squidoo) which had links to Site 1 or 2. So each of my two niche sites has their own EZA, and IB, and a Squid linking to them (homepage & inner page) and now those 3 properties (per niche site) have article/blogs linking back to them.

It’s still a little early but so far rankings haven’t moved much (from the recent submissions). Before I submitted the initial three direct-linking articles by rankings were:

Site 1: #15/#194 (home/inner – note the home started at #12 and dropped just prior to starting)

Site 2: #133/#284 (the homepage here started at #314 but moved up on it’s own just prior to starting)

Today the rankings are:

Site 1: #11/#59

Site 2: #42/#108

So Site 1 has moved up to #11 which isn’t much as it had usually been stuck at #12, but the inner page has moved from #194 to #59. Site 2 has made good progress for both the homepage and inner page. I will say that much of the movement came after I posted the direct-linking articles. I’m not seeing much effect yet from juicing my backlinks but I think that will take more time.

In the past when I set something like this up for a CB mini-site, I still included direct links to my site from some of the top directories and then pointed the lower tier directories at the links. Next time I think I might trying to point just a few more links directly to my site, but we’ll see where the rankings for these sites settle in a week or two.

I’ll check in every few days with an update.

Article Backlinks – Site 1 in Progress

June 18th, 2010 · Backlinks

As I am writing this my spun article for Site 1 (which will link back to the 3 properties which link to Site 1) is being submitted by AAS. That’s the nice part of automation – you can do other stuff while it works. Of course, once the automatic submissions are complete I’ll have to do the semi-auto ones which will take an hour or so but I am hoping to have it completed tonight. I have already submitted the same spun article to ArticleRanks and will submit a version through Articlebot.

Site 1′s homepage was ranking #11 before I started submissions. I checked on Site 2 (where submissions were completed a day or two ago) and no movement yet.I found a few submission for Site 2 indexed already and I bookmarked 3 of them. I will try to find a few articles every now and then and send bookmarks their way.

I also submitted the RSS feeds for the Squidoo and Infobarrel that link back to site 2. The EZA feed has been submitted before so I didn’t bother. I never see many backlinks from RSS so I’m never quite sure the effort is worth it, but it is easy enough.

I did finally add Adsense to Site 1. So far it is monetized with Infolinks (which you can’t track by site) and one Amazon product (no sales), so I need to see if this site will be profitable. I don’t expect big earnings because the search volume on the main KW is low, but if I can see a few clicks I can consider it a niche to expand on.

That’s all for me today. I’ll be monitoring rankings on these two sites and figuring out what I want to do next.

(edit – the AAS submission was much faster today. I must have accidently turned off the auto-submit on some articles yesterday. Everything for Site 1 has now been submitted through AAS, AB, and AR. Phew!)

Finally Some Progress on Article Backlinking

June 17th, 2010 · Backlinks

Well, I really need to find a quicker way to spin articles because it took me FOREVER. I actually gave up at trying to backlink two sites at once and just focused on finishing the spinning of the article for Site 2. One problem is that I did not plan ahead for the anchor text, especially for ArticleRanks which uses links within the article body, and I spun the article first then had no easy way to add in the links. Anyway, next time I will try to be more organized – lesson learned.

Okay, so I finished the spun article for Site 2 and started submitting through Automatic Article Submitter last night. It was getting late so I stopped half-way through and then finished this morning. I also submitted my spun article with ArticleBot and posted it to ArticleRanks this morning. ArticleRanks will drip out the submissions while AAS and AB are more of a blast, but the links can be delayed depending on how fast the articles are approved. For the AAS submission I linked back to my InfoBarrel and Squidoo (which each link back to Site 2′s homepage and an inner page), for AB I linked back to the same InfoBarrel and EZA (which each link back to Site 2′s homepage and an inner page), and with ArticleRanks I linked back to all three (EZA, IB, Squid). All clear?

Just prior to starting my submissions I checked Site 2′s ranking in Scroogle. The homepage was at #50 for it’s KW (starting at #300+) and the inner page was #286 for it’s keyword. As of today, the homepage is #41 (didn’t check the inner page). I doubt the move is b/c of the submissions, maybe the social bookmarking is kicking in, but who knows. The next few days/weeks will tell the story.

Can I just say that the submitting part too longer than expected. AAS does some automatic submissions but alot end up being semi-automatic so you have to sit and hit “submit” or maybe enter a captcha. When I used the program before I dripped out my submissions so the time involved was not as obvious. AB and AR went more quickly.

So from here I still need to finish the spinning (titles and links) for Site 1 submissions and start submitting. I will also track my Site 2 submissions and bookmark some of the article sites (juice the juice). Other than that, I’ll be sitting and watching my rankings :)

Article Backlinks Test – Life Delay

June 14th, 2010 · Backlinks

For those who have kept up, it looks like we will be moving after all. There are still some loose ends but I think things will work out. I mention this b/c we just put our house on the market so I am a little behind. Man, there is alot of cleaning involved!

So in addition to having kids out of school for the summer, I will also be busy keeping our current house clean for showings (with 2 kids at home all day!!) and preparing for a move. I’m hoping to still have a few hours online each week to keep some small amount of momentum going but it will be tough. I’m trying to draw out a plan of things I can do (mostly backlink building) that will be primarily hands off.

But, I do plan to get this little article backlinking test done this week. Last week I posted my article rewrites for two sites to EZA, Info Barrel and Squidoo. I also submitted those sites for a few bookmarks.

I have one article spun for each of my two niche sites (a previously submitted EZA) but still need to spin titles and resource boxes/links. These spun articles will be submitted to various article directories and to ArticleRanks with links back to my 3 new articles (EZA, IB, Squid) which link back to the corresponding niche site (homepage, inner page). In the past when I spun links I don’t think I was meticulous enough about moving the link placement. Still not quite sure how to do this easily, especially for AR which will be in-text links. In fact, since my article bodies are already spun it will be tricking placing the links but I’ll figure something out.

All of this is taking more time that I anticipated. Since I outsourced the 3 new articles/rewrites I was thinking this would go quickly but I forgot how long it takes to spin, especially the anchor/text links. Next time I think I may order 2 sets of articles (per site) from GAD and use one set for spinning (combine the 3 rewrites into one) and just add a few word spins. Then I’ll just have to create and spin titles and resource boxes. If anyone has any tips on how to speed all of this up I am all ears!

Also, I’ve been re-thinking my original idea of targeting the same keyword on my satellite articles (EZA, IB, Squid). At first I thought I would rather compete against myself than someone else for Page 1 on the big G. But another possibility is that there is only one weak site currently on Page 1 that can be overtaken and I want my site to be the one to take that Page 1 spot, not one of my satellite articles. So even though my satellite articles use the same keywords in the text, I’m going to backlink to those articles with another keyword as anchor text so hopefully they will not rank as high for my site’s main keyword. Now, if my satellites were set up as funnels to my site I may not care as much, but they are not set up that way.

Finally, Site 2 had a nice jump in rankings today – it was showing at #52 (was at #314 when I started). That movement must have been from the satellite articles posted last week and could be temporary, but I like it! Site 1 is staying put although the inner page I targeted moved up a few spots.

Article Backlinks – Quick Update

June 11th, 2010 · Backlinks

I’ve been busy with other stuff and haven’t made any additional progress. My Info Barrel articles are live and I bookmarked them with IMAutomator. So now I have articles for each of the 2 sites on EZA, IB, and Squidoo.

I still need to spin an article for Site 2 and then I’ll be ready to start sending out some links. Hopefully I can start early next week.

Site 2 brought in another Amazon sale so I am excited about it’s potential. Site 1 is still a mystery as far as monetary potential.
