So I started working on a budget and associated plan for June to 1) make sure I keep some focus and 2) to keep motivated by accomplishing set tasks rather than feel discouraged by my lack of earnings with my niche sites. I have a general outline for my budget but am still doing some tweaking and rethinking. Once I have the kinks work out I’ll publish it so I have some accountability also.
As I was working on my budget/plan I noticed my tendency to drift. I started thinking about working on some of the niches I have placed on hold, and had decent reasons for doing so, but I need to stick to one main goal. At the moment, that goal is to get my niche site #6 on Page 1 of Google for the main keyword.
Since I have limited time and budget I think it is necessary to focus my efforts. Otherwise my work gets diluted out, which may be okay in the long run, but for the short-term I psychologically need to see some earnings success. My only fear is that even if I get niche site #6 on to the first page of Google, the earnings will still be a disappointment, but that is a risk I’ll have to take.
Last night I did some keyword “re-research” for niche site #6. I decided this month I wanted to do some deep backlinks and wanted to find the best keywords/pages to target. As I started checking competition, I was pleasantly surprised to find some of my inner site pages within the first 3 pages of search results for their keyword. Although now that I think about it that was checking the keyword in quotes so maybe I shouldn’t get too excited.
Nevertheless, it is something and I was able to prioritize my deeplinking plans based not only on competition, but also on current search results placement. The research also helped me to determine some good longtail keywords to target with article marketing which I will hopefully add to my June budget plan.
This weekend I think I will go back to focusing on backlinks. I still haven’t gone through Paul’s May BL packet and I have a list of good BL sites I found myself. I also need to identify an affordable writer to do some rewrites and new articles. I have had such bad luck in this area that I am dreading having to do this. I have a few leads, we’ll see what happens.
Oh yea, my new niche site #13 that I set up last week has been indexed. I have a homepage (article), privacy policy page and will add an about and contact page this weekend. I think that almost gets it to a sniper site level (since the KW is exactly the domain name) minus some articles. I’m excited about this one b/c I finally got a good keyword-only domain with good search stats – not sure how exactly I want to proceed yet. I may start adding a few articles or I may just let it sit and age. I always seem to land my sites in the sandbox so I’m unsure of the best approach at the moment.

Are you finding Paul’s backlinks to be any help? I am currently using only Angela’s, but I was thinking of adding his as well.
Hi Dusty,
I use both Angela’s and Paul’s so I can’t be sure what is helping or not. All I do know that is that the backlinking has definitely pushed up my rankings.
I would say that Paul has more lower PR links, but still 4 and above. Basically, if you can get through Angela’s packets and still have time left for the month, Paul’s is a good second set.
Thanks. I appreciate your honest opinion.
Building links is such a time consuming process, but I think it is worth while. Hopefully, the few sites I have created will start creeping up in the SERPs soon.
