I added my June earnings to my earnings page. Nothing to write home about.

What you don’t see is that my personal site, which I don’t include in my earnings as it is an older site and not meant to be a moneymaker, had a drop in adsense earnings so June was not a good month for me. I don’t expect July to be much better as things seem to be slower in summer and I won’t have time to do much this month.

The two sites I had been working on with backlinks to backlinks have been holding steady in there rankings until today, I see that Site 1 has dropped to #9 after sticking at #5-6 for awhile. The site started on Page 2 (#12-15) so I’m still happy with the bump. Site #2 is holding steady at #42 – I think it started around #314. I still have a few tricks up my sleeve to try and capitalize on the work already done, but haven’t had the time.

I did also get some web2.0 articles up for 2 of my other sites but still need to fortify those properties with links. However, we will be settling on our new house soon and have work to do and then moving so I will probably let this blog go quiet for awhile.

I’ve been thinking alot lately about my earnings and sites and have to admit I’m not happy. I’m willing to put in the work to get my sites ranking but I’m not so confident in my niches. I still look back at the sites that haven’t panned out monetarily and I’m not sure why. If I can’t identify the issues, how can I avoid them?

I would like to start up some new sites in the fall as I think I need more diversity, but I am a bit gun-shy at this point. I like the idea of Amazon sites but it seems like everyone, their grandmother and their second cousin is now getting into Amazon and I worry that the bubble will burst. Seen that happen too many times so I try to stay away from whatever is “hot”.

I think that concludes my therapy session for today. Thanks for stopping by.

  1. I’ve been thinking about that as well, the seasonal dips, and was thinking about targeting every season with a couple of sites.

Then have other sites that I’d like to write for, irrelevant of season.

If you find any kw’s and affiliate products for love/relationships, money/finances/debt, health/fitness/beauty…I forget the other one…there’s one more…hmm….

Anyway, the evergreen niches that we Americans especially spend oodles of poodles on, these are great all year.

Summer slumps are just part of the dealy-oh, though, unless you had a summer oriented site I’m thinking.

Great time to fortify for the *next* season, though, even get a Christmas site up and ranking, to be in position for the season.

    Hi there,
It is always disappointing when you know that you have put in so much work but your sites don’t work out as you expect them too.

Checking out the success of other people helps to keep me motivated. If they can do it then so can I??????

Good luck with this month’s workload and earnings.

    Thanks Tiptopcat.

From looking at your earnings page it seems like the reason for the decline in June was due to much less being earned from Amazon. Was this a genuine decline, or was May 2010 just uncharacteristically high?

  5. Carrie says:

    Hey BB,

Yeah, Amazon in May was high. But my total income was down for the month b/c of an old site that I don’t report on here.

I’m kinda new to Amazon and did sell enough items to boost my rate one notch, but the items were lower dollar value. So far this month I have sold nothing and Adsense is low – don’t think July will be kind.

  6. Bristolboy says:

That is interesting Carrie. I also noticed an increase in sales on Amazon, but each was for a lower value so I ended up getting the same earnings. However, for myself so far in July Amazon has been slightly down but Adsense has been up once again though I think it may be linked to several of my hubs being linked to summer activities/good weather and so have had more hits to these pages.

Are you excited about the move? That can be a very exhausting time, but fun when you go to a new place.

Hopefully things will start to pick up for you, but you have such a full plate.

  8. Carrie says:

    Hey Kelly.

Actually I am feeling more overwhelmed than happy about the move. There is so much to do and we still need to sell our house which isn’t going anywhere fast.

I think I’ll be happier in a few months once things calm down.

  9. Witchie says:

Gratz on the new house and hope your move goes smoothly! I’ve been finding my niche sites less than successful so I’ve actually started targeting the American dream niches myself. The only new domains I’ve bought this month are targeting a specific holiday and once those are up I plan to rinse/repeat with the next biggest holiday. We Americans spend millions every year on holiday seasonal items and even sporting events such as the super bowl.

  10. Carrie says:

    Thanks Witchie.

Holidays can certainly be profitable. I was thinking of trying for Christmas this year but not sure I’ll have enough time till Sept which may be a little late to start. Good luck and let me know how things work out.

  11. Check this Hub out – it has a few more bookmarking sites that allow revenue sharing (my favorite so far is SheToldMe, but not sure if I’ll get approved yet).

Not my Hub, but useful. I thought I’d share it w/you since you list “paid to write” links. This is a less intensive way.

I feel your pain Carrie. Seeing this post just reminded me I had not updated my June earnings and it is painful to see my adsense earnings 50% lower for June and July is trailing behind June’s performance but I am still truckin’ along and believing in myself and my efforts.

There does seem like a million amazon sites out there but there is always room for more. Where you can find decent keywords and low competition, you can get into nearly any niche.

  13. Carrie says:

Thanks J. I signed up for STM awhile ago but still haven’t used it. I’ll check out that hub.

Sara – I’ve been so busy I just stopped looking at earnings this month. It was getting me down.
